The History of Southern Virginia Salsa

After spending the past year learning latin dance in Latin Dance Club (LDC) at James Madison University, Kai was inspired to create a summer program to help bring Latin Dance to Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Therefore, on January 8th, 2025, Kai Coronas founded Southern Virginia Salsa (SVA Salsa).

With the help of Carol Dunn at The Corner at Two One Six in Clarksville, Virginia, Kai was able to make the idea a reality and held his very first Latin dance class on June 18th, 2025.

On Thursday, March 19th, Kai announced that SVA Salsa is returning to Mecklenburg County, Virginia, in the summer of 2026 at the Backyard Brews & Bites. The very first class will be completely free and will be held on Thursday, May 21st, at 6:00 PM.

Meet The Instructor!

Hey everyone! My name is Kai Coronas, I am the founder of Southern Virginia Salsa here in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. I founded this summer program because of our area's lack of latin dance! The closest areas to learn or dance is over 1 hour and 30 minutes away!

I developed a passion for teaching Latin Dance during my time as a general member. I started my term as the Vice President and Instructor for LDC in 2025 and have instructed many courses in LDC and taught for neighboring social dance venues such as Charlottesville Bachata Social, Latin Dance Night, and many more! I hope you can join us this summer for another fun time of dancing!
